Deputy Minister Chmelař met with Irish State Minister for EU Affairs Byrne

 

On February 8, 2022, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleš Chmelař met for a working lunch with the State Minister for EU Affairs of Ireland, Thomas Byrne, for consultations.

The talks confirmed the interest of both parties in further deepening Czech-Irish bilateral relations in all areas of cooperation. The topics of the meeting included CZ PRES priorities, the future of the EU, the position of Ireland in the post-Brexit period and the current situation in Northern Ireland, the possibilities of strengthening coordination between the Czech Republic and Ireland as like-minded EU MS in areas of common interest. The basic issues of security policy with an emphasis on regional cooperation, current developments in Ukraine, the European Union's relations with Russia and the situation in the Middle East were also discussed.
