Joint Statement of the Ministers of Benelux and V4

On 8th December 2019, a working dinner of the Ministers of V4 and Benelux countries took place in Brussels, before the Foreign Affairs Council, at the joint invitation of Luxembourg’s Presidency of the Benelux Union, represented by Minister Jean Asselborn, and of the Czech Republic’s Presidency of the Visegrad Group, represented by Minister Tomáš Petříček. The V4+Benelux cooperation is a traditional format which the Czech Republic considers, in line with the priorities of its Presidency of the Visegrad Group, as particularly important for the strengtening of the dialogue and cohesion within the European Union.

The Ministers discussed the most topical problems of the current European Union and foreign affairs agenda, such as the new institutional cycle of the EU and its priorities, the core values of the EU including the rule of law, EU enlargement, energy and clima policies, the relations EU-USA, EU-Russia, EU-China or Brexit. At the end of the meeting, the Ministers issued a joint V4+Benelux statement where they confirmed the value added and the importance they attach to the cooperation and dialogue in this format.
