Minister Petříček Received New President of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty

On 5 September 2019, minister Tomáš Petříček received the recently named president of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Czech Republic, Jamie M. Fly who took office in mid-August this year.
During the meeting, minister Petříček stressed the support of the human rights and democracy constituting one of the Czech foreign policy pillars. Both partners agreed on the importance of professional and independent journalism that, especially in today's confusing world, needs to be based on verified facts. In this context, minister Petříček appreciated the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty activity that, furthermore, represents a specific form of cooperation between the Czech Republic and the United States.
Minister assured president Fly that the MFA interest in cooperating on the joint project of journalism scholarships Václav Havel Journalism Fellowshipand Jiří Dientsbier Journalism Fellowship continues. The aim of the scholarships is to encourage the development of young journalists originating from the Eastern Europe and Western Balkans. President Fly thanked for a long-term support and presented priorities of his mandate as a head of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Besides, ways of possible cooperation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution and other important milestones were discussed.
