Entry Exit System (EES)

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is an automated digital border system that registers entry and exit of non-EU citizens travelling for short-term visits (up to 90 days) in and out of the Schengen Area. It is used as of October 12, 2025 by the EU Member States except of Cyprus and Ireland + by Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

When crossing the external border of the Schengen Area, the EES registers personal data from the passport data page, biometric identifiers (fingerprints and photograph) and the date and place of entry and exit.

The EES registers foreign nationals who require visas as well as those who travel visa-free.

The EES will gradually during the 6-month transition period) replace manual passport stamping.
