The Czech national holiday commemorating the “Act of Establishment of the Independent Czechoslovak State”, published in Prague on 28th of October, 1918. During two decades of existence of the Czechoslovak Republic, the foundations of democratic institutions which constitute the backbone of the Czech political system till today were laid. In spite of the fact that the so called “First Republic” was not able to accommodate fully its minorities – Germans, Hungarians, Poles – it became one of the most developed democratic states in Europe between the World Wars. Current Czech Republic is a successor state to the Czechoslovak Republic which is generally accepted as an organic and important part of national history by the Czech people.
