Strengthening trade relations, exploring new investment opportunities, advancing financial digitalization, and even the prospect of a direct air link between Prague and Hanoi – all were on the agenda during the official visit of Czech Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura to Vietnam, which took place from April 21 to 23, 2025.
In Hanoi, Minister Stanjura met with key representatives of Vietnam’s financial administration – Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang and Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Ngoc Canh. Their discussions focused on trade and investment cooperation, fintech development, the digitalization of public finance, and technical assistance. Both sides expressed a strong interest in deepening bilateral ties and welcomed further engagement by Czech businesses in the dynamically growing Vietnamese market.
Significant attention was given to the possibility of launching a direct flight connection between Prague and Hanoi, discussed in detail with representatives of Vietnam Airlines. Such a route could greatly simplify both business and tourism travel, while enhancing Prague’s role as a major air hub in Central Europe.
As part of the visit, Minister Stanjura also visited the showroom of Škoda Auto, a Czech carmaker that is experiencing impressive expansion in Vietnam. The growing popularity of Škoda models among local customers further demonstrates the global appeal of Czech brands.
A key highlight of the trip was the official opening of a Czech-Vietnamese business forum in Hanoi, where leading Czech companies showcased their expertise and established new partnerships. The event also saw the signing of an important cooperation agreement between Czech cybersecurity firm Whalebone and its Vietnamese counterpart – a significant step toward greater digital security and technological collaboration.
“Vietnam is our main partner in Southeast Asia. This visit clearly showed that both countries are committed to deepening cooperation across a wide range of sectors,” Minister Stanjura said at the conclusion of his visit.
The mission to Vietnam not only reaffirmed the strong ties between Prague and Hanoi but also generated fresh momentum for Czech exports, technological development, and global connectivity.
