Havel Speking, Can You Hear Me? in Light House Cinema
24.10.2024 / 11:03
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, and in cooperation with Petr Jančárek and Endorfilm, the Embassy of the Czech Republic had the pleasure to organise the Irish premiere of the unique documentary about a president, citizen, director, friend, husband, patient, a man nearing the end of his life…
Petr Jančárek presents Václav Havel in both his well-known but also previously unshared roles. It is based on a never-before-published material, filmed during the last years of his life. The film enters theatres at a time when the legacy of Havel’s thought and his emphasis on individual freedom resonates more strongly than ever before in our society. Václav Havel speaks to us again. And we could meet him one more time.
Ambassador Pavel Vošalík welcomed the audience and introduced our special guests: Petr Jančárek (director), Jiří Konečný (producer) and Bill Shipsey (director of Art for Human Rights), who shared his personal experience with Václav Havel and recalled Havel's visit to Dublin in 2003.
The screening was attended by more than 100 viewers, whose questions were answered by Petr Jančárek and Jiří Konečný after the screening. There were many students in the audience—our special thanks to a large group of Czech students from the Dundalk Institute of Technology.
