The event, held on 30 March 2017, was the third of the literary-linguistic seminars, co-organised by the Czech Embassy in Dublin at the Arts and Humanities Research Institute at Trinity College Dublin titled “Found in Translation – Current Czech and Irish Literary Works in Translation”. This year’s seminar was dedicated to the celebrated 1949 Irish novel “Cré na Cille“ by Máirtín Ó Cádhain and its three translations; the currently finalised Czech translation “Hřbitovní hlína” by Radvan Markus (to be published by Argo in autumn 2017) and two English translations, the first by Alan Titley titled “Dirty Dust” in 2015 followed by Liam Mac Con Iomaire’s and Tim Robinson’s translation “Graveyard Clay” a year later.

All of the above mentioned translators, with the exception of T. Robinson, were present at the seminar, which was excellently moderated by Assistant Professor Pádraig De Paor from the Department of Irish and Celtic Languages. The academic panel discussed the novel and the translators’ individual approaches to the literary work, a few choice excerpts were read in Irish, Czech and English.

Three departments of Trinity College Dublin took part in organising the seminar - the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, the Department of Irish and Celtic Studies and the Trinity Centre for Literary Translation.
