During "Words on the Street" - European Literature Night in Dublin on 20 May 2015 contemporary Czech literature was represented by the novel "Sedmikostelí" by Miloš Urban. The reading was excellently performed by Philip O'Sullivan and enjoyed great public interest.
European Literature Night in the Irish capital this year took place on 20th May. A dozen European literatures were represented including Czech literature, thanks to the embassy. The novel "Sedmikostelí" by Miloš Urban (first edition in 1999) was chosen as a book representing contemporary literary from the Czech Republic.
A few carefully selected passages from the English translation by Robert Russell of this remarkable book - "The Seven Churches" (issued in 2010 by Peter Owen Publishers) were presented by the well-known Irish actor Philip O'Sullivan. The first excerpt was also read by the Ambassador in the original Czech. The public reading in the cosy Darc Space Gallery (at 26 North Great George's Street, Dublin 1) was visited by nearly a hundred guests.
The Embassy expresses its great appreciation to Philip O'Sullivan for his excellent performance of the chosen passages from the novel, and also to Margaret Moran for her kind offer to use the Darc Space Gallery for the reading of Czech literature.
