The Embassy continued its literary and linguistic project entitled ‘Found in Translation – Contemporary Czech and Irish literary works in translation’, which it organises annually. “Mount Merrion”, the successful debut novel of Justin Quinn, an Irish writer and acclaimed poet living in Prague, was translated by Tereza Límanová and published by Argo in December 2015.

The event was moderated by Dr. Jana Fischerová, a lecturer at the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, and was held at Trinity Long Room Hub.  Both the authors, who are also spouses, outlined their individual and collaborative process while working on the book. During the presentation they read some of the more challenging passages in the text and explained the difficulties these presented from a linguistic and cultural perspective during the translation process. There followed a discussion where they answered both literary and linguistic queries from the audience of approximately fifty people.

As co-organiser of the seminar the Embassy of the Czech Republic received the co-operation of four major institutions within Trinity College – the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies, the School of English, the Centre for Literary Translation, and the Arts and Humanities Research Institute.
