European Literature Night in Dublin 2016 included Czech novel ‘The Fifth Dimension’ by Martin Vopenka

Acclaimed Czech novel ‘The Fifth Dimension’ by Martin Vopenka was part of European Literature Night which took place in Dublin on Wednesday 18 May 2016

Each year ‘Words on the Steet’, the European Literature Night event in Dublin, features contemporary European writing from 12 countries being read by Irish celebrities at 12 different venues. This year’s event took place on 18 May in the Temple Bar area of Dublin’s city centre.

Irish actor Phelim Drew was at the Gutter Bookshop in Cow’s Lane, Dublin 8, where he read excerpts from the acclaimed Czech novel ‘The Fifth Dimension’ by Martin Vopenka at regular intervals throughout the evening. The novel has been translated by Hana Sklenkova and was published in 2015 by Barbican Press. Described by Literogo as ‘a mind-bending exploration of physics, spirituality, humanity, sexuality and the effect of isolation and separation on one’s psyche‘, and this certainly proved to be an apt description.

We would like to extend our thanks to Phelim Drew for his captivating recitations which held the attention of the large audiences in attendance, and to Bob Johnston and the staff of The Gutter Bookshop for very kindly hosting our event.
