Travelling by Car

Are you travelling to Czechia by car? Here you will find the basic useful info and more.

What to bring with you

  • valid driving licence
  • vehicle registration card
  • "green" insurance card

Motorway Fee

All vehicles of total weight up to 3,5 tons (motorbikes are free of charge) are required to pay a motorway fee.

The motorway fee is required by the purchase of an electronic vignette. The motorway fee should be paid as soon as you enter the Czech Republic as toll roads often applies immediately after border crossings. Buy a sticker.

Some vehicles, including electric cars, are exempted from the motorway fee, but, unless registered in Czechia with registration plate starting with letters "EL", they are still subject to (rather complicated) registration in the system to be exempted.

Vehicles exceeding 3,5 tons are required to pay toll.

Please see the map of paid sections of motorways and expressways on Motorway.cz.

Speed limits in the Czech Republic
