On December 6, 2022, the Ambassador the Czech Republic in Lebanon H.E. Mr. Jiří Doležel, together with the director of the Baalbek hospital Dr. Abbas Shoker, Minister of Public Health H.E. Mr. Firas Abiad and the Head of the General Security general Abbas Ibrahim, inaugurated a new Neonatology department of the Baalbek hospital – a donation of the Czech Republic.

The donation of medical equipment from the Czech Republic comprises the neonatal incubators, phototherapeutic lamps, infant wormers, birthing beds, pediatric beds and electro coagulators.

The overall value of the Czech Republic donation is 250.000 USD, and it was financed from the Reconstruction Programme of the Czech Republic in the Middle East region for the period 2022–2024 approved by the Czech Republic government in November 2021.

Baalbek Governmental hospital is the central governmental public hospital in the Baalbek region.

The main purpose of the donation was to help the Baalbek hospital to increase the accessibility of this population to prenatal and postnatal care and increase the quality of services   delivered by the hospital in order to reduce the number of preterm deliveries.

Thanks to the new Czech medical equipment for the neonatology department, the Baalbek hospital will be able to improve the quality of care for premature babies as well as the overall quality of hospital services for all its patients from the Baalbek region, including the vulnerable population from Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian communities.
