Embassy of the Czech Republic

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Beijing is the foremost diplomatic mission of the Czech Foreign Service in the People's Republic of China. It is complemented by Consulates General in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Specialised government agencies CzechTrade, CzechInvest and CzechTourism also operate in the PRC.

Czechoslovakia recognised the People's Republic of China as the third country in the world on October 4th 1949 and subsequently diplomatic relations between both countries were established.

The current premises of the Czech Embassy in Beijing were built between 1958 and 1960. The Brutalist buildings were designed by the prominent Czech architect Karel Filsak, who also created the Czechoslovak embassies in Brazil, Delhi and Cairo. His other works include the T1 terminal at the Václav Havel Airport and the Intercontinental Hotel in Prague's Old Town.

The Embassy’s primary tasks are:

• To ensure that the Chinese-Czech diplomatic relations are maintained and optimized.

• To provide assistance to the Czech Republic’s commercial interests in China.

• To raise awareness of the Czech Republic, Czech values and Czech culture to the Chinese citizens.

• To provide visa and consular services for Chinese citizens as well as providing prompt and effective assistance to Czech citizens in China.
