The Czech Center of Global Studies visits Ethiopia

A delegation of the Centre of Global Studies (CGS), which is a part of the Institute of Philosophy of the Czech Academy of Sciences has visited Ethiopia these days. The delegation  was lead by the Director of the CGS Dr. Marek Hrubec.  Purpose of this visit was to deepen cooperation with local universities such as Addis Ababa University and Ethiopian Civil Service University. The delegation also visited Sodo and Awasa in Southern Nations Region of Ethiopia where they learned more  about the implementation of development projects run by the Czech NGO People in Need.

Their visit was concluded by a international conference organized in cooperation with Addis Ababa University under the title "Conflict Resolutions and Peace Building: The Role of Media, Indigenous Knowledge & Philosophy."

H. E. Ambassador of the Czech Republic  PhDr. Pavel Mikeš opened the conference with his keynote speech. The Center of Global Studies was represented by its Director Marek Hrubec, Albert Kasanda and Jan Svoboda.

The Centre of Global Studies (CGS) of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic is based in Prague, and it  focuses on an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in philosophy and the social sciences. It analyses contemporary political, social and cultural changes which, as a consequence of the ongoing processes of local and global interactions, influence the lives of individuals, social groups, societies, and economies. The research results are used not only in an academic sphere but also in the state administration and public sphere in the Czech Republic and abroad.
