On 17 June 2016, Ambassador Karel Hejč visited the village of Kelemamba, situated in the vicinity of Debre Birhan town in central Ethiopia, where this year the Czech embassy is supporting a development project aimed at improvement of access to drinking water, irrigation and diversification of agricultural production.
This local small-scale project with a budget of CZK 465.840.00 is being implemented by an Ethiopian NGO called ADHENO Integrated Rural Development Association. In two villages of Kelemamba and Kitalegn (in Goshedabo kebele, Bossana Worana woreda) which had chronically suffered from lack of water, water distribution schemes from nearby springs have been developed and an irrigation canal constructed.
In the next phase of the project the inhabitants of both villages will obtain seeds and seedlings of various kinds of fruits and vegetables, which shall substantially enrich their production (and consumption), consisting mainly of cereals until now. They will also receive trainings for maintenance of water schemes, irrigation and horticulture.
The inspection of the newly constructed facilities and a subsequent meeting with the local community was attended also by representatives of ADHENO headed by the Executive Director Mr. Fikre Hailemeskel and of the local administration.
