We would like to recommend a very informative publication titled: "Best Practices in Landscape Management" that reviews good practices in projects implemented by the Czech Development Assistance in Ethiopia between 2010 and 2020.
The Publication was prepared by the People in Need NGO in collaboration with other Czech implementers. The objective of this publication was to present the experience of successful implementation of development projects with a focus on the management of natural resources (NRM). Ethiopia, as a vast country with the economy generating income mainly from agriculture, is highly dependent on her natural resources, namely soil and water. Therefore, the importance of the conservation of these resources in the country is deeply related to sufficient food production, stability and the well-being of the population. Ethiopia is facing the impacts and consequences of extensive deforestation which accelerated significantly between 1960s to the 1980s and Ethiopia during these years basically lost - according various sources - 60-70 % of its forests’ coverage. This was mostly due to the needs of the growing population and the agricultural sector. This resulted in problems such as disturbed landscapes, massive erosion, the loss of productive soil, and famines. The brochure also brings some innovative concepts such as conservation agriculture, agroforestry and participatory development. Look into the good practices and be inspired how to bring about change in sustainable manner.
