On December 5, 2025, the Embassy welcomed several participants of the annual Lidice Children’s Art Competition. Ambassador Miroslav Kosek greeted the children, and the most accomplished young artists received certificates of recognition. Guests also enjoyed playing PEXESO, a popular Czech memory game. We extend our sincere thanks to all the participating children and their schools, congratulate the winners once again, and look forward to their participation in the coming years.
The International Children’s Art Competition Lidice is a globally significant cultural event that brings together thousands of children through art, promoting a message of peace and humanity. It is open to children and young people ages 4 to 16—both individuals and groups from schools and extracurricular organizations. Accepted art forms include drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, film/animation, and three-dimensional works such as ceramics, metal, wood, and textiles.
The competition has been held annually since 1973. Each year, approximately 25,000 artworks from 70–80 countries are submitted. A specific theme is announced annually, often in cooperation with the Czech Commission for UNESCO, and typically reflects an important world anniversary or a current global issue (past themes have included “Museum,” “Book,” and “Light”).
Czech embassies play a key role in the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice by promoting the competition and serving as intermediaries in participating countries. Embassy involvement includes two main phases: collecting submissions and presenting awards to winners. The annual Lidice competition commemorates child victims of war conflicts worldwide.
