On 16 February 2018, Karel Hejč, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ethiopia, and Amdasu Nebebe, State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation of the F.D.R.E. signed Memorandum of Understanding on Development Cooperation setting up the framework of cooperation between the two countries.
Ethiopia has been the priority country of the Czech Development Cooperation since 2010 and in 2016 the Czech government decided to extend its commitment to Ethiopia for another 6 years until 2023. Having the experience with development and humanitarian projects in Ethiopia since 2001 the Czech Republic has decided to focus on 2 main priorities – agriculture and rural development and sustainable management of natural resources and our projects are mainly located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region.
Every year the Czech Development Cooperation is supporting projects in the total amount of 3,5 mil USD and this support has been steadily growing. In line with the Ethiopian government’s development aspirations, mainly GTP II, our programme aims to assist Ethiopia and its people in increasing their economic potential for sustainable and equitable economic growth as a way to achieve higher employment and self-reliance for all. The broad objective includes staking steps to improve the quality of life and well-being of the population and to help meet the people’s essential. Our own experience of economic and social transition is as guidance in working towards these objectives.
