The Czech Republic has been supporting South Sudan for many years. As the humanitarian situation in South Sudan stays very difficult, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic supports a project providing healthcare to victims of conflict and internally displaced people in the region state of Jongeli.
Despite the peace agreement signed in September 2018, the security situation remains very tense. As a result of clashes between tribes and other armed groups, many people remain in miserable health without any access to health care. The project is trying to change the current situation in cooperation with UNICEF and MAGNA with the support of the Czech Republic.
The aim of the project is to improve access and increase the capacity to respond to the necessary health need of the most vulnerable populations. Other efforts also include reducing child mortality, which is among the highest in the world and also preventing the emergence of cholera epidemics, which are not an exception in this area.
Equality between men and women is an important part of this project as well, with an emphasis on reducing violence against women and their ability to make their own decisions independent of men.
We believe, that improving health care will give hope for a better future, especially for the victims of the conflicts, and will also contribute to the development of the country, which is absolutely necessary for the further functioning of South Sudan.
