Feb 4, 2021 in Awassa. Representatives of the Czech Embassy participated at launching workshop of new project funded by Czech Development Cooperation. The name of the project is "Implementation of Sustainable Water Supply Systems in Selected Kebeles of Bura, Dale and Bona Zurya Woredas of Sidama Region. 2020-2023".
The launching workshop was officially opened by a speech of Ato Wubishet Tsegaye, Head of Sidama Regional Water, Irrigation Development Bureau. He evaluated the situation in water supply in Sidama and mentioned that drinking water coverage remains still low, despite numerous project interventions, at 41% and 17 % of water schemes already established are currently non-functional, therefore a joint work of Woreda Water Bureaus and Czech implementers will be necessary.
His speech was followed by Václav Weinfurt, representative of Czech-Ethiopian company Aquacon, who introduced the project main components and timetable and gave very practical tasks to the Woreda Water Bureau representatives. NGO People in Need will closely follow the whole process of construction and will provide trainings in scheme maintenance, that will ensure its future sustainability. The meeting was very fruitful and there was enough space for questions from the participants while ensuring they are informed about their role in the whole process. Czech Development Cooperation has more than 10 years of experience in water supply infrastructure development through integrated solutions in the region. The event was covered by numerous local media.
