Czech Embassy again this year Engaged in Green Legacy Campaign by Planting Trees in Addis Ababa, at the Oda Bultum University in Chiro/Asebe Teferi and South Omo

For the third time since 2019 the Czech Embassy joined the Green Legacy Initiative (Arengwadye Ashara) by sevearal tree planting events. During those events, as many as 150 trees of several native varieties were planted on the premises of the new Czech Embassy compound in Addis Abeba, as well as other locations.
The Addis Ababa event took place on 7 of July 2021 on the premises of the future Czech Embassy in Haya Hulett. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Office of the Prime Minister, Office of the Mayor in Addis Abeba and Ethiopian Heritage Trust enthusiastically planted several trees, mainly native and endemic vatieties, like Koso, Tsid, Birbira, Woyra, Zigba but also some fruit trees.
Czech Ambassador Pavel Mikeš in his speech addressed several environmental challenges that could be tackled by planting more trees and ensuring proper forest management. He mentioned, that by taking part in this initiave the Czech Embassy wishes to contribute to the efforts of making Addis Abeba greener, cleaner and more beautiful Ethiopian and African diplomatic capital. During his speech he also mentioned efforts of the Czech Development Cooperation, that supports land management and reforestation projects, finances production of seedlings in the tree nurseries, develops capacities of the local offices and every year plants hundreds of thousands of trees in the South of the country to prevent soil degradation.
