Czech and Seychelles Presidents Discuss Closer Cooperation

President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel met with President of Seychelles Patrick Herminie on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on 23 September 2026.

The two Presidents discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in agriculture, transport, smart city solutions and water management. They highlighted the potential for partnerships, technology transfer and the involvement of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in education, research and specialised training. Seychelles expressed interest in developing ties between the University of Seychelles and Czech universities, including Charles University, particularly in medicine, environmental science, aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity and climate resilience.

President Pavel also informed his counterpart about the Czech Republic’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2032–2033 term.

The meeting confirmed the mutual interest of both countries in developing practical cooperation through business partnerships, education, training and the exchange of expertise.
