Czech Embassy planting trees!

The Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa has joined the Green Legacy initiative, which aims to plant more than 4 billion trees across Ethiopia, 3 million of the are supposed to be planted in Addis Ababa during the current rain season. The symbolic beginning of the campaign took place in Oromia in May this year, when the first tree was planted by Prime Minister Abiym.
Thanks to its proactive approach, the Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa has become the first foreign office to join this initiative.
On Thursday, July 25, 2019, the opening ceremony of this campaign in the form of planting trees on the land of the future embassy in Haya Hulet in the capital of Ethiopia. Architectural competition for new embassy was already held and its construction should begin soon.
On this occasion, the Czech Ambassador Pavel Mikeš gave an introductory speech, mentioning the importance of combating deforestation and climate change, while not forgetting the efforts of the Czech Embassy, who is not indifferent to the current state of the environment in Ethiopia. During his speech, he also stressed the need for continuing events of this kind and the hope that it is not the last act for protecting the environment.
In the presence of the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, members of the Addis Ababa City Hall and the great interest of the media, the whole staff of the Czech Embassy in Addis Ababa attended this very successful event and all of them jointly planted over 40 trees.
