On May 24, 2022, Ambassador Pavel Mikeš handed over books and painting utilities that were financed by the trade unions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic to the director of Yemeni school in Addis Ababa.
Arabic speaking authors wrote most of the books while others were translated to Arabic from the Czech language. The books included, for example, The White Disease and The Mother by Karel Čapek, a tour guide of Prague or books about the grammar and lexicography of the Arabic language by Czech authors. The books were accompanied by painting utilities produced by the Czech company Koh-in-Noor Hardtmuth from České Budějovice.
The current Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen also participated in the ceremony. The representatives of the Yemeni school expressed their appreciation since the donation will expand the offer of the school library and will allow the students to learn more about the Czech Republic and its literature, language and tourist attractions. This particular Yemeni school is attended by the children of the Yemeni community in Addis Ababa as well as by those who had to flee Yemen because of the ongoing war.
