Medical help to Ethiopia – second MEDEVAC mission

The second mission of the health-humanitarian program MEDEVAC took place in Ethiopia between 22. – 28. September 2019. The second mission consisted of a children cardio surgeon prof. Tomáš Tláskal from the Motol hospital in Prague, 3 biomedical technicians and the project coordinator, Ms. Anna Pavlačková.
The team first visited the Menelik II. hospital in Addis Ababa, where the largest ophthalmology department in Eastern Africa is located. The three technicians managed to repair many ophthalmological machines and to provide service trainings to more than 20 technicians from various Addis Ababa hospitals. The Czech Embassy in Addis Abeba helped with organization and translation of these trainings.

Professor Tláskal then visited the new cardio surgery department at the Black Lion hospital, where he met with Dr. Nega. They discussed surgery procedures at the hospital and the upcoming cardio surgery mission, which could arrive next year. MEDEVAC has also met with the director of the hospital, Dr. Yirgu and discussed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Black Lion and Motol hospitals.
