Our staff on the EU Nungua Beach Clean Up

The Czech Embassy staff participated at the traditional Beach Clean Up organized by the EU Delegation in Ghana on 26th September, 2020, on Regional Maritime University beach at Nungua, Accra. The event was organized on collaboration with the Plastic Punch and was joined by representatives of EU member states embassies and a total of 220 volunteers.

During the clean up,  volunteers collected 5.3 tons of waste from the turtle nesting beach, which included: 4.1 tons of plastics (PET); 160 kg of water sachets, 400 kg of electronic waste; 560 kg of textiles; 194 kg of shoes, 42 tyres.  The waste was separated by the volunteers at the beach and was forwarded to different entities for treatment. Coconut trees were also planted alongside the beach clean-up to protect the shoreline from coastal erosion.
