Visit of Czech Health Sector Delegation to Ghana and Cote d´Ivoire

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa led a business delegation of the Czech health sector to Ghana from 24 to 27 November, 2019. The visit reflected the deepening of Czech-Ghanaian cooperation in the health sector in the past years. The delegation was accompanied also by Deputy Minister of Health Radek Policar who led part of the delegation to Cote d´Ivoire from 27 to 28 November, 2019.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa started the visit of Ghana by consultations with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Alhaji Mohammad Habibu Tijani. Deputy Minister Tlapa appreciated Ghana´s the stability and its economic growth over the past years. He stated that, “Ghana belongs to our biggest trade partners in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal is to move from the development cooperation model to an equal relationship based on economic cooperation.” Speaking of strengthening of the economic cooperation, Deputy Minister Tlapa praised the signing of the agreement on avoidance of double taxation and pleaded for the ratification by the Ghanaian parliament, and he also called for concluding the negotiations about the bilateral agreement on promotion and protection of investment.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tlapa and Deputy Minister of Health Policar met with Ghana´s Minister of Health Kwaku Agyaman-Manu to discuss both the economic aspects of cooperation in the health sector and the implementation of the Czech development program titled MEDEVAC.

The delegation met with the Health Committee of Ghana´s Parliament. The business part of the delegation also visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Greater Accra Regional Hospital. The delegation did a tour to the Bortianor clinic that was built by the Czech company Vamed.

The main accomplishment of the delegation´s visit was the Czech-Ghanaian B2B Forum of the Health Sector that took place under the auspices of the visiting Deputy Ministers. The Czech companies had productive encounters with representatives of Ghanaian health care institutions that could develop into a long-term cooperation.

On the occasion of his visit to Ghana, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tlapa met also with Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul and Minister of Interior Ambrose Dery to discuss cooperation in providing for regional security.

From 27 to 28 November, Deputy Minister of Health Policar paid a visit to Abidjan. He met the Ivorian Deputy Minister of Health and Hygiene, Mr. Joseph Acka, to discuss development of bilateral cooperation in the heath sector. The Deputy Minister met also with the National Council of Doctors and the National Council of Pharmacists, and visited the Farah clinic.
