Czech Republic to Start the First Free Hearing Screening for All New-borns in Cape Coast

Cape Coast Teaching Hospital is going to be the first hospital in Ghana to introduce free hearing screening within the "GIFT OF HEARING" project for all new born babies, starting from 3rd of April 2018. This project will not have happened without the close cooperation between the hospital, LESS PRIVILEGED GHANA FOUNDATION and the financial support from the Czech Republic Development Cooperation through the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ghana who donated GHC 80, 000.
Cape Coast Teaching hospital will receive Emission and Audio meter machines that will be used for the ear screening of the new born babies and the second one is audiometer that will be used to check the hearing ability for the older kids and the adults. “Our NGO has been operating in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana for the past 4 years now and this donation is the confirmation that we are focused on the right things and are trusty for the other companies and donors. Our focus is mainly on the prevention and we have the ambitions to provide 10 Emission and Audiometer machines to all the main Hospitals in the 10 regions of Ghana and have the first ever cochlear implant surgery on the soil of Ghana in year 2020. “said Emmanuel Appiah Warden, CEO of Less Privileged Ghana Foundation.

“We are proud supporter of such an impacting activity. If the hearing defect is seen in the early stage there is high probability, that the solution can be found, “said H.E. Margita Fuchsova, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Ghana.

“After the handover of the machines to the Cape Coast Hospital representatives on 3rd of April, free ear screening will continue that day at the ENT department of the hospital. The next day the team will do another free ear screening in Bronyibima Estate and then to Dutch Komenda. The team of doctors, led by visiting Professor David Duron will be ready to provide limited number of hearing aids for free on the spot as well as the basic medical acts," added Emmanuel Appiah Warden.

More than 4.000 adults and kids went through their FREE screening programs up to now. The NGO is voluntary based, the operational costs are financed by its patron, private and corporate donors from the Czech Republic, entrepreneurs and philanthropists from Elmina and Cape Coast. After the credit check of the NGO, The Embassy of the Czech Republic is the first public sector supporter of the NGO´s activities.
