On Thursday, 30 October 2025, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ghana, Pavel Bílek, welcomed journalist Ekow Boakye to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Accra. Ekow represented Ghana in the Cool Czechia 2025 programme, an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic aimed at connecting young African leaders with Czech institutions, values, and society while strengthening ties between Czechia and African countries.
The third edition of Cool Czechia took place from 8 to 17 October 2025 in Prague and Telč. This year, the programme brought together 20 talented young Africans from 15 countries across the continent – from Morocco to South Africa. Its goal is to build personal and professional connections with the emerging generation of African leaders from various fields such as media, civil society, and academia. Participants met with representatives of the Czech government, media, academic institutions, and NGOs, and discussed topics including global affairs, energy, and security. They also visited the Office of the President of the Republic, the Václav Havel Library, Czech Television, and the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant.
Ambassador Bílek spoke with Mr Boakye about the journalist’s impressions of the programme. In a friendly discussion, they touched on Prague’s public transport and the higher education system. The topic that resonated most was Czech monuments and cultural heritage. “Czechia and Ghana both love their respective culture and heritage, but Czechia is being intentional about its preservation,” said Ekow Boakye.
The Cool Czechia programme, now in its third edition, has become a regular part of Czech diplomacy toward Africa and a concrete tool for building long-term relations with the young generation of African professionals. Ghanaian representatives are regular participants, underscoring the growing interest in cooperation between the two countries.
