Czech gynecologists provided surgeries at Tamale Teaching Hospital

A successful mission of Czech doctors from the gynecology field launched the implementation of the MEDEVAC programme in Ghana- The program reaffirms the commitment of the Czech Republic to enhancing the cooperation in the health sector. The team composed of 2 gynecologists and an anesthesiologist from the Bulovka Hospital in Prague conducted between 9 and 13 December a total of 50 surgeries on patients who would otherwise have difficulties receiving the treatment.

MEDEVAC is a government-led program of medical cooperation coordinated by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic, whose goal is to provide access to health care to vulnerable groups of population and contribute to the exchange of expertise and knowledge transfer among the Czech and local doctors.

The gynecological mission to Tamale Teahcing Hospital was the first deployed mission of the MEDEVAC programme in Ghana. The team of Czech doctors received a warm welcome, its presence was announced in hospital´s radio and the doctors gave interviews to local media. The hospital mobilised a high number of patients, from whom the Czech doctors were selecting according to the severity of the diagnosis.  

The local doctors very much appreciated the cooperation with Czech doctors, as it enabled to extend the affordability of the health care and provided for knowledge transfer. In the next year, further teams of doctors will be deployed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
