The Czech Film Caravan Captivates Audiences at the EU Film Festival in Accra

Caravan, a Czech award-winning film directed by Zuzana Kirchnerová, was screened at the European Union Film Festival Ghana. The joint Czech-Austrian film evening attracted more than 70 guests and also featured a discussion with the director.

On 8 October 2026, the Austrian Embassy in Accra hosted a joint screening of the Czech film Caravan and the Austrian film The Village Next to Paradise. The film evening formed part of the European Union Film Festival Ghana 2026, held under this year’s theme of peace, tolerance and inclusion. The programme opened with brief remarks by the Ambassadors of Czechia and Austria.

Caravan sensitively explores long-term caregiving, family relationships, personal freedom and the inclusion of people with disabilities. Its focus therefore aligned naturally with the festival’s central theme. The screening was attended by more than 70 guests from the Ghanaian public and the diplomatic corps.

A major added value of the Czech contribution was the subsequent video discussion with the film’s director, Zuzana Kirchnerová. The approximately 15-minute conversation was moderated by Ghanaian filmmaker Alice Johnson and gave the audience an opportunity to learn more about the making of the film, its central themes and the director’s personal inspiration.
