Celebrating 100 years from the establishment of Czechoslovakia

Today, on 28th October, we commemorate 100 years from the establishment of former Czechoslovakia. In Accra, we celebrated this anniversary already on 22th October. The National Day reception at the Residence of the Czech Ambassador was attended by members of the diplomatic corp, Ghanaian state institutions, traditional leaders, Czech and Ghanaian business community, Ghanaians who studied in former Czechoslovakia and many others. The government of the Ghanaian government was represented by the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, hon. Cecilia Dapaah.

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ghana, Mrs. Margita Fuchsova, reminded the guests of the key milestones of the "Czech and Slovak century". To commemorate our shared past, the original Czechoslovak anthem was played. The visitors had a chance to learn about the foundation and early years of the First Czechoslovak Republic at a special exhibition at the Residence.

During her speech, the Czech Ambassador appreciated the increasing number of mutual visits by both official and business delegations and underlined that next year we will celebrate 60 years of mutual relations. For this occasion, a special exhibition documenting the history of Czecho(Slovak)-Ghanaian relations is being prepared.

As was the case during the past National Day receptions, persons who contributed to the development of Czech-Ghanaian relations were awarded. This year, the first medal of honor was presented to Mr. Jerry Agudogo, a physician who studied in former Czechoslovakia and has been in close cooperation with us ever since. The second medal of honour was presented to Msgr. Pavol Talapka for his contribution to the development of cooperation with Czech and Slovak compatriots in Ghana.
