2 MEDEVAC summer expeditions to Tamale

On 22 May - 2 June, a trauma mission of the team of the General University Hospital in Prague took place in Tamale, Ghana. A total of 23 surgeries were performed on 22 patients during 6 operating days. Patients with unhealed fractures, nerve pareses, infections and acute injuries from the poor population of Ghana could not afford medical care without our help. Many of the patients who were able to have surgery now would otherwise be bedridden for the rest of their lives, or hope that their fracture would heal enough for them to stand on it again.

The medical team from Bulovka University Hospital, led by Prof. Michal Zikán, M.D., Ph.D., participated in another successful mission to Ghana from 5 June - 15 June 2023 at Tamale Teaching Hospital. During six surgical days, the five-member gynaecological team managed to operate on a total of 70 patients with complicated gynaecological diagnoses, such as advanced gynaecological tumours or cancer. For most of the patients, it was undoubted that they would not have survived longer without the intervention of Czech doctors and the opportunity to undergo free surgery.
