On the third day of their visit to Israel, the Czech engineering delegation traveled north to Kibbutz Sasa, located near the Lebanese border, to visit Plasan, a world-renowned manufacturer of advanced armored vehicle solutions. With nearly four decades of experience, Plasan is recognized for its innovation in vehicle protection, composite armor systems, and lightweight survivability solutions used by armed forces worldwide.
Founded in 1985, Plasan has become a global leader in the development and manufacturing of composite materials and armored solutions. Their expertise lies in reducing vehicle weight without compromising protection — using advanced composite materials such as ceramic, Kevlar, aluminum, and titanium. These so-called “composite sandwiches” reduce vehicle weight by up to 40%, allowing for greater mobility and efficiency.
While the core production area remains confidential due to security and intellectual property concerns, the delegation was introduced to Plasan’s key technologies and vehicle platforms, including the well-known SandCat armored vehicle. Based on a Ford chassis, the SandCat is modular, allowing customers to receive it in kits for final assembly
Since its first delivery in 2005, over 1,500 vehicles have been supplied to military and security clients worldwide, including NATO-compliant platforms for European forces.
The company continues to innovate by integrating advanced technologies such as mission profile systems and blast-absorbing seating, now also produced “in-house” following the acquisition of Mobius, a company specializing in safety seating systems.
Another highlight of the visit was Plasan’s new robotic support vehicle All-Terrain electric Mission Module (ATeMM), designed to operate alongside manned vehicles. Equipped with 268HP electrical motor, a 3-ton carrying capacity, and a 3 km remote control range, this autonomous platform has already been adopted by multiple armed forces worldwide.
Plasan is part of Kibbutz Sasa, which also operates a kiwi plantation, a dairy farm, and the popular local ice cream brand Buza. This reflects the cooperative and multi-faceted character of Israel’s northern communities, where high-tech innovation and agricultural tradition coexist.
Despite its proximity to the Lebanese border, Plasan maintained uninterrupted operations during recent conflicts, even under daily missile threats from Hezbollah.
We greatly appreciate Plasan’s hospitality and the opportunity to learn more about their cutting-edge solutions under truly challenging conditions — an inspiring example of resilience and innovation.
We believe that mutual cooperation can be found with Czech engineering companies that may become part of Plasan’s supply chain. We look forward to continuing to support these activities and strengthening connections between our countries in the defense sector.
