Czechia’s support for development in Georgia: Overview of the main achievements 2015-2025

Czechia has been a long-standing partner in Georgia’s development journey, offering support to Georgia through Development Cooperation and Transition programmes since almost 20 years. Georgia is one of the priority countries in both programmes, covering very large portfolio. Over the years, this partnership has grown to cover a broad spectrum of areas from healthcare and rural livelihoods to environmental protection, civil society, human rights, support of ethnic monorities and more.
Embassy of the Czechia in Tbilisi has prepared a brochure, summarizing Czechia’s efforts to support people of Georgia on their path to euro-atlantic structures and socio-economic development with the focus on democratic values. We are proud that through large portfolio of projects within development cooperation and transition programmes, we managed to make a tangible and positive difference in the lives of Georgian people.
Brief overview of the main outcomes, achieved within last 10 years:
Healthcare & Social Inclusion
• Developed healthcare through modern infrastructure, staff training, and quality systems. More inclusive support for people with disabilities and children in care.
Rural Development & Agriculture
• Boosted rural livelihoods with eco-friendly farming, agrotourism, and stronger food value chains.
Food Safety & Security
• Enhanced food safety and resilience through modern practices and better infrastructure.
Environmental Protection
• Protected biodiversity and natural resources, especially in mountain regions. Promoted climate education and disaster preparedness.
Local Initiatives (LAGs) & Youth
• Funded community-driven projects and empowered youth and NGOs to shape local change.
Democracy, Civil Society and Independent Media
• Strengthened institutions, backed civil society, and supported independent media and public engagement.
Economic Development Cooperation
• Supported entrepreneurs and small businesses with expert advice and better access to international trade.
Czech UNDP Partnership for Sustainable Development Goals (CUP)
• Supported innovative, scalable solutions aligned with the SDGs, connecting Czech expertise with Georgia’s development needs.
Local Small Scale Projects
• Funded initiatives to improve daily life in communities through local leadership.
Scholarships in Czechia
• Provided Georgian students with opportunities to study in Czechia, building skills for Georgia’s future.
Cooperation between Czech and Georgian Universities
• Fostered academic partnerships, joint research, and knowledge exchange between higher education institutions.
Technical Assistance
• Delivered expert guidance and capacity-building to Georgian institutions for effective governance and service delivery.
