
Czech Embassy commemorates Václav Havel by public reading

On 21 October 2016, the Embassy of the Czech republic in Tbilisi organized an event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of Václav Havel, former President of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, writer and dramatist. Václav Havel´s texts were read in Czech, Slovak, Georgian and Russian. Excerpts from the book Prosím stručně (To the Castle and Back) were read by e.g. Deputy Foreign Minister Khatuna Totladze, Deputy Minister of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia Levan Kharatishvili, Czech Ambassador Tomáš Pernický, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Georgia Rudolf Michalka and former Ambassador of Georgia to the Czech Republic Nino Nakashidze.
Public reading was followed by a debate with professor Sulkhan Mukhigulashvili, who translated Václav Havel´s book Prosím stručně into Georgian. The commemorative event to mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of Václav Havel was accompanied by an exhibition of photographs Václav Havel 1989 – 2003 by Czech photographer Karel Cudlín.
