Opening documentary screening about Czech „Sokol“ activities in Georgia

The first ceremonial projection of the documentary called „Sokol (Shevardeni)“ about the activities of „Sokol“ sport organization in Georgia was held in the premises of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Georgia on 30th January 2019.

The organization inspired by Czech „Sokol“  was founded on Georgian territory in 1907 as the first of its kind in Russia then.  More than 80 spectators participated in the screening, namely compatriots, students, experts in Georgian history or Czechs and Slovaks residing temporarily in Georgia.

The film forms the third part of compatriot project called „Czech traces in Georgian history“ and was prepared by the Association of Georgian-Czech Relations „Láska-Praha“ lead by its president Ioseb Bezhashvili. The filming was financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Approximately 20-minute long documentary of very good quality was shot in Georgian language with Czech subtitles.

Unfortunately, the author of the topic Mr. Bezhashvili did not live to see the completed film – he had passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of January 2019. Thus, the screening and the film itself were dedicated to his memory.
