In cooperation with the Lidice Memorial and Miiamilla Children's Museum, the embassy organised an award ceremony for the children’s art competition winners on Thursday, 20th October.
Every year, the Lidice Memorial organises an International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts, in which preschool and school-age children worldwide participate. The purpose of this project is to honour the memory of the child victims of the village of Lidice, who perished during the annihilation of the village by the German Nazis during the Second World War, and all other children who lost their lives in war conflicts.
The theme of this year's fiftieth anniversary was My Museum, and a total of 14,527 artists participated in it, with 1,552 of them receiving awards. Pupils from Estonian schools also participated in the project, sending 216 works, and 13 of them were winners.
For these winners and their teachers, a ceremony and an exhibition were held at the Miiamilla Children's Museum in Kadriorg Park. We welcomed here about fifty guests from various Estonian schools. In an enjoyable environment, Ambassador Král welcomed all the participants and said a few words about the tragic history of Lidice. Then he handed out diplomas, medals and Estonian translations of well-known Czech fairy tales, such as stories about The Little Mole or books by Denisa Prošková, to the children. The teachers were given their own certificates.
After the presentation itself, an accompanying program was prepared for the guests - children and adults could watch episodes of Czech cartoons Maxipes Fík or Štaflík and Špagetka and also enjoy themselves in the museum. Everyone was also invited to taste pancakes, a well-known Estonian snack.
The pleasant afternoon was an opportunity to promote Czech culture and deepen Czech-Estonian friendship, even among the youngest. The theme of the following 51st edition of the Lidice International Children's Art Exhibition is Dance. Pupils aged 4-16 can apply for the competition until February 10, 2023.
