Premiere of Janáček's opera The Cunning Little Vixen in Tallinn

On January 30, 2026, the Estonian National Opera (Eesti Rahvusooper) hosted the gala premiere of Czech composer Leoš Janáček's opera The Cunning Little Vixen.
The event was attended by representatives of the Czech Embassy in Tallinn. This was the first time that an opera by this world-renowned modern Czech composer had been performed in Estonia. The opera was directed by Priit Võigemast. The orchestra was conducted by Arvo Volmer, an admirer and connoisseur of Janáček's work. The original and captivating set design was created by artist Rosita Raud. During the gala evening, all the creators mentioned above said that, in addition to the opera's indisputable musical qualities, they also appreciated its powerful timeless message expressed in allegorical form. The opera was performed in Estonian with English subtitles. It will remain in the Tallinn Opera's repertoire for at least the next three seasons.
The premiere was symbolically supported by the Czech Embassy. A Czech menu was served during the gala evening, including Budweiser beer, and the Czech Ambassador to Estonia, Zdeněk Beránek, gave a speech at the reception after the performance.
