Václav Havel Exhibition Opened in Estonian National Library

On 5th of May director of the National Library of the Czech Republic Mr. Petr Kroupa, director of Estonian National Library Ms. Janne Andresoo and ambassador of the Czech Republic in Estonia Mr. Richard Kadlčák opened the exhibition about Václav Havel dedicated to his 80th birth anniversary.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Estonia is proud to announce the opening of the exhibition about Václav Havel and samizdat book publishing in totalitarian Czechoslovakia which is shedding some light on activities of those dedicated people who felt passionately about the standard of official publications, book production and access to information during the Communist period of Czech history in which publicly expressed opinions were censored.

Together with his sympathizers, Václav Havel set up the samizdat book series called Edice Expedice that issued books by authors banned by the Communist regime. The series ran, with pauses, until the revolutionary year of 1989. In almost 15 years of operation it managed to bring out 232 titles.

The exhibition is complemented by a series of photographs covering the significant milestones of the work and life of a Czech playwright, dissident, philosopher and president Václav Havel.

The exhibition, prepared in cooperation with the Library of Vaclav Havel, is presented in the 6th floor exhibition hall and will be open until 26th of May 2016.
