We would like to remind you, that data collected in the Census will be used in many ways, and will have an impact in areas such as possibilities of foreign language radio and television broadcasting on a national or regional level, the accessibility of documents and materials of Australian departments and organisations in different languages, including libraries and educational institutions, as well as financial support for local community organisations or schools etc.

In addition, the data will be one of the main statistics used by Czech missions in Australia (the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Canberra and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney) when communicating with Czech offices and institutions in regards to the Czech community living in Australia and support for that community from the Czech Republic (e.g. the issuing of financial grants to Czech schools and community organisations and the support of community events).

Information about nationality, country of birth, ancestry and affiliation with the Czech community or year of arrival to Australia will be a very important factor in determining the size of the Czech community in Australia, which we will work with in the future. During the Census there will be the option to name several options in the section “Cultural Ancestry”, e.g. in response to the question “Ancestry”, use of foreign language etc.

We would ask you to provide as much information as possible regarding your relation to the Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia in the Census and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We emphasise that information provided in the Census undergoes a process of complete anonymisation and will be processed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics only.

Czech offices will only work with the publicly available statistical data related to the size of the Czech community in Australia in its demographics (age, state of residence, residential status etc.).
