Joint Reception on the occasion of the National Days of the Czech and Slovak Republics and 30 year Anniversary of the dissolution of former Czechoslovakia.

On October 12, 2023, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney and the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Sydney, organised a joint reception on the occasion of the National Days of the Czech and Slovak Republics to mark 30 years since the dissolution of former Czechoslovakia.

The reception took place in the iconic Bondi Pavilion at Bondi Beach in Sydney and was attended by 140 guests consisting of representatives of the NSW Parliament, DFAT NSW, NSW Consular Corps, local government (City of Sydney), human-rights organisations as well as guests from public, cultural and business spheres and representatives of the Czech and Slovak community in Australia.

The Consul-General of the Czech Republic in Sydney, Mrs Zuzana Slováková, together with the Consul-General of the Slovak Republic in Sydney, Mr Martin Kabáč gave a joint speech, which was followed by speeches by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Australia, H.E. Jana Tyrer, the President of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of NSW, Ben Franklin, the State Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade NSW, Crispin Conroy, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, Mr Robert Kok. Following the speeches, a photographic exhibition depicting Czech and Slovak landscapes and attractions was officially launched. The formal part of the evening culminated with a performance by the local folklore ensemble Kukabura, dressed in traditional attire, who performed a selection of Czech and Slovak folk songs.

The event took place with the generous support from the following sponsors: ESET (an IT company focused on anti-virus programs), Hamšík Winery (wine producers) and EBL Importers (Australian importers of Czech Beer, spirits and other products of Czech origin).
