
Europe Day Celebrations in Sydney

On 6 May 2025, as has become custom, an event took place in the representative space of the NSW Parliament, organised by the Consulates-General of EU Member States to commemorate 9 May 1950 as Europe Day - one of the symbols of Europe and the European Union.
The formal part of the evening commenced with speeches by the Consul-General of the Republic of Poland, Piotr Rakowski, acting as a representative of EU Member State currently holding the Presidency of the European Council, the President of the Legislative Council of NSW, Benjamin Franklin, and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki as a guest speaker - a very well known populariser of science in Australia who is a fellow of the Science Foundation for Physics at the University of Sydney.
The event was attended by over 160 guests from the NSW Consular Corps, representatives of NSW public institutions, local and international groups and the media.
In the reception the followed, guests had the opportunity to continue informal discussions about opportunities to further deepen collaboration between the EU and Australia.
The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney contributed to the realisation of the event - both financially and during preparations.
