The stable long-standing trade relations between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria were the primary focus of the meeting between Ambassador Miroslav Toman and Minister of Economy Petar Dilov. The high level of economic cooperation is also evidenced by the almost twofold increase in mutual turnover over the last four years.
The Czech Ambassador to Bulgaria, Mr. Miroslav Toman, emphasized that the Bulgaria-Czech Chamber of Commerce, which was established last year, has already brought together more than 40 members and currently plays a significant role in boosting mutual trade relations. Mr. Toman added that there are already many good examples of Czech companies that have invested in sectors such as telecommunications, automotive industry, finance, healthcare, IT, logistics, industrial manufacturing, and others in Bulgaria. It was also noted that more than 400 companies with Czech participation are currently operating in Bulgaria. The development of economic relations between the two countries is also reflected in the trade exchange values – in 2024, Czech exports to Bulgaria reached EUR 1.2 billion, while imports to the Czech Republic were EUR 1.1 billion.
During the meeting, it was announced that a manufacturing plant of the Czech company BTL, specializing in the production of medical devices, is set to open in Plovdiv in June 2025. This investment is expected to create employment for at least 1,000 qualified professionals.
Statistics show that the Czech Republic is among the top twenty most important foreign investors in Bulgaria. The Czech ambassador also agreed with Minister Dilov that Bulgaria's full-fledged accession to Schengen, together with the expected entry into the eurozone, will open up further space for mutual cooperation and the development of existing business contacts.
