On 29 May 2026, the Czech Ambassador to Bulgaria, Miroslav Toman, paid an official visit to BALKAN‑SAST EOOD, a Sofia‑based company specializing in the development and manufacturing of railway signaling systems and a member of the Czech AŽD GROUP. The visit focused on presenting the company’s achievements to date and its gradual transformation from a purely manufacturing enterprise into a high-technologies development center.
BALKAN-SAST EOOD focuses on the development, production, and implementation of modern systems for railway traffic control and safety. During the visit, Ambassador Toman toured the company’s production and development facilities and was introduced to its latest products and technological solutions, including trackside and onboard components of the European Train Control System (ETCS).
Building on this technological expertise, AŽD GROUP has recently secured a major contract in Bulgaria involving the modernization of a railway line connecting Sofia with the Serbian border. As part of the project, AŽD is delivering advanced signaling technologies designed to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of rail transport along this key section of a European transport corridor. BALKAN‑SAST plays an integral role in the project, contributing to the manufacturing, testing, and subsequent installation of the supplied equipment.
Through his visit to BALKAN-SAST, Ambassador Toman emphasized the importance of economic diplomacy and the support of Czech companies on the Bulgarian market as one of the key priorities of the Czech Embassy. This is particularly significant because strengthening business cooperation in the field of modern transport infrastructure opens up a very important area for further deepening the economic relations between the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
