NATO foreign ministers to meet in Prague

Czechia will host an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in May this year. The meeting will take place in Prague on 30-31 May. The ministerial meeting is an important commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Czechia's membership of NATO this year and the 75th anniversary of the Alliance's founding.

“I am grateful to Czechia for hosting this informal meeting as we prepare for our Summit in Washington in July,” the Secretary General said. “This year marks 25 years since Czechia joined NATO and 22 years since the Prague Summit where we invited seven more central and eastern European countries to join our Alliance. So this is a fitting place to discuss how we can continue to strengthen and adapt NATO in this important anniversary year,” said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“The informal Ministerial is a recognition of the Czech Republic's status as a reliable and valid member of the Alliance. In a situation where war is raging in Europe and our values and way of life are under threat, the Czechia is contributing to strengthening the unity and cohesion of the North Atlantic Alliance, which ensures the security of the Western world, including the security of our citizens,” said Minister Lipavský.

The NATO Ministerial is, alongside the NATO Summit, the second most important security policy meeting of the Alliance outside Brussels. It will be the largest Alliance event in Czechia since the NATO Summit in Prague in 2002. An important element of the meeting is the official logo, which depicts the panorama of Hradčany.

The event will also include several side events, such as the 11th National Conference "Our Security is not a given", an exhibition at Prague downtown, discussions on "Our Footprints in NATO" held at secondary schools or the Scout Institute, and more.
