On 10.9.2015 in Ohrid the Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Macedonia Spiro Ristovski, the outstanding Macedonian director Ivo Trajkov and the professor at FAMU Tomáš Petráň officially opened the new film school and scientific research workshop “Film Institute – Ohrid Film Academy” (FIOFA).

The institute, which was agreed upon in 2008 by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and the Academy of Music Arts (AMU) is meant to be a regional workshop, which will provide academic education of film majors for candidates from Macedonia and the surrounding countries.

The Macedonian Ministry of Education and Science decided to support the establishment of FIOFA, which is going to work as an independent institution within the Goce Delchev University in Shtip, by providing the building and scholarships for all accepted students in the current academic year, which covers the tuition fees for the whole period of the three year full-time studies.

In 2015 two majors for three-year Master studies were opened: screenwriting and creative production. The applications along with all compulsory qualifying works can be submitted electronically on the web-page of the faculty www.filmacademyohrid.com until 4.10.2015. The selected candidates will be called to an interview, which will be held on 13. and 14.10 at the premises of FIOFA in Ohrid or via the Internet application Skype.

The accredited study programs of FIOFA originate from the accredited programs of FAMU and the lectures will be held by professors of this important Czech school. In the following years the school plans to gradually open further areas of study by a close cooperation between FAMU and FIOFA, which should be aimed at creating proper research and publishing activities regarding the regional film history and audio-visual studies.
