Director Jiří Svoboda Receives the “World Award of Humanism”

On January 18, 2017 the famous Czech director, screenwriter and pedagogue Jiří Svoboda at the premises of the Macedonian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Ohrid was awarded with the “World Award of Humanism” and he received the award from Mayor Nikola Bakracheski and the rector of the University of Audio-Visual Arts and President of the Ohrid Humanism Academy Jordan Plevnesh. Among the laureates of this prestigious award which has been awarded since 2007 are the Nobel Prize of Literature laureates Alexandr Solzhenitsyn and Herta Müller.

According to Ambassador Miroslav Rameš, who in his speech shortly presented the opus of the laureate and stated that the Czech Republic and Macedonia are linked by a long history, spiritual, cultural and linguistic affiliation and civilization values, it is suitable at the present complicated and tumultuous time to remind ourselves of the meaning of the words humanism, truth, identity as well as freedom and independence, as these concepts were not always matter of fact.

Jiří Svoboda in his address mentioned the close people and literary works that had a decisive influence on the spiritual formation of his person and warned that the deep thoughts were substituted by the “endless depths of the internet” and the Christian temple by the “temple of consumption” and he express his hopes that the future belongs to the people faithful to their believes and he pointed out the heritage of the Hellenic culture, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
