On 26 September 2025, the prestigious Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore hosted a recital by the Czech pianist Matyáš Novák titled Homage to National Spirit. Performed on a piano by the Czech company Petrof, the concert was both a celebration of Czech classical music heritage and a showcase of Novák’s exceptional talent. The performance was part of the European Sound Piano Concert Series, organized to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Cristofori Music Singapore.
This was the second time in 2025 that Petrof instruments were featured on a Singaporean stage. The first occasion was a concert by Professor Karel Košárek on 4 July 2025, where the local audience experienced the rich, earthy tone of the Petrof Monsoon P237. In September, Petrof returned to the Singapore music scene with Matyáš Novák.
The concert program was dedicated to four legendary Czech composers – Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, and Josef Suk. Novák’s interpretation of Suk’s Love Song was especially moving, while his own fantasies based on themes from Dvořák’s Rusalka and Smetana’s Vltava offered the audience a fresh and original perspective on iconic works by Czech composers. The performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the captivated audience.
The concert also highlighted the craftsmanship of Czech piano-making represented by the company Petrof. Founded in 1864, Petrof is one of Europe’s most respected piano manufacturers. Its presence on the Singaporean stage stood as a proud testament to Czech innovation, tradition, and artistry.
Following the concert, Czech Ambassador to Singapore Dana Baschová and her guests had the opportunity to meet Matyáš Novák in person. The Ambassador praised the outstanding performance, which brought Czech musical heritage closer to the Singaporean audience.
The concert was held in cooperation with Cristofori Music Singapore and True Music Singapore, with support from Petrof and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Singapore.
